Joan Alexander is a dynamic leader and innovator in the interior design industry, with a career spanning decades and marked by significant accomplishments in both business and philanthropy. As the CEO and COO of the International Design Center (IDC) from 2005 to 2007, Joan led one of the most prominent design centers in the U.S. during a critical phase of its development. She oversaw the 225,000 square-foot center, managing over 45 showrooms, and was instrumental in expanding its design portfolio. Her leadership fostered important partnerships between designers and showrooms, while her innovative marketing and media strategies helped position the IDC as a leading force in the design world. Prior to this, Joan held key leadership positions at the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) in Florida, where she served as Vice President and General Manager for over two decades. Under her stewardship, DCOTA became the "crown jewel" of design centers and the world's largest interior design campus, featuring 15 showrooms and regularly hosting industry events that drew global attention with well-known individuals like Ralph Lauren, Jose Feliciano, Sylvia Nasar, and John Nash. Joan's strategic vision led to the creation of cutting-edge media programs, high profile sponsorships, and international partnerships, all of which contributed to the center's reputation as an award-winning hub for creativity and design.
In addition to her monumental work in the design industry, Joan held leadership roles in marketing, including serving as Vice President of Marketing for Mohasco's Carpet Division, where she orchestrated the largest carpet order in the company's history for the Saudi Arabian military. At McDonald's Corporation, she led the marketing division and was recognized for her role in launching the second Ronald McDonald House initiative.
Beyond her professional achievements, Joan has always been deeply committed to community service and philanthropy.
